Nag Panchmi, the major festival of Hinduism, is reciting this time on 25 July. This festival is celebrated as Nag Panchami, the Panchami of the Shukla Paksha of Saavan month. The tradition of worshiping serpents in India is very old because serpents are considered as the form of God. On the day of Nag Panchami, milk is offered to snakes in Lord Shiva’s temple and some people also feed milk to serpents. On this day, people get rid of the fear of snakes by worshiping the serpent and experience happiness and prosperity at home.
On this day, a fair is organized at a place called Nag Kuan of Kashi, the holy city of Lord Shiva, and it is believed that the snake who sees this Nag Kuan gets freedom from snakebite. Apart from this, special programs are organized in many places.
Method of Nag Puja on the day of Nag Panchami
On this day, people prepare ash statue of Nag Devta by mixing black coal ash in cow dung at their homes. And then by placing this statue on a wooden post, offering sandalwood roses, flowers etc. to the serpent god, they offer them sweet milk and offer their aarti. On this day, some people also worship the deity of gold or any metal, Pancha Nag (the five-headed serpent) and offer prayers to them. Some women are also fasting on this day, they should have food in the evening on this day’s fast.
Other beliefs
In India, serpents are worshiped from the pre-epoch period, because it awakens the human’s sense of love towards snakes. Snakes live in our fields and make our fields fertile. They also protect our fields by eating other creatures like rats etc.
हिन्दू धर्म का प्रमुख त्यौहार नाग पंचमी इस बार 25 जुलाई को पढ़ रहा है। यह त्यौहार सावन मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की पंचमी को नाग पंचमी के रूप में मनाया जाता है। भारत में नागों की पूजा करने की परंपरा बहुत पुरानी है क्योंकि नागों को भगवान का रूप माना जाता है। नाग पंचमी के दिन भगवान शिव के मंदिर में नागों को दूध चढ़ाया जाता है तथा कुछ लोग नागों को दूध पिलाते भी हैं ।इस दिन लोग नाग देवता की पूजा करके नागों के भय से मुक्त होते हैं तथा घर में सुख समृद्धि का अनुभव करते हैं।
इस दिन भगवान शिव की पवित्र नगरी काशी के नाग कुआं नामक स्थान पर मेले का आयोजन किया जाता है तथा माना जाता है कि, जो नाग इस नाग कुआं का दर्शन कर लेता है, उसे सर्प दोष से मुक्ति मिल जाती है। इसके अलावा कई जगहों पर विशेष कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया जाता है।
नाग पंचमी के दिन नाग पूजा की विधि
इस दिन लोग अपने घरों पर गाय के गोबर में काले कोयला कि राख मिला करके नाग देवता की प्रतिमा तैयार करते हैं. और फिर इस प्रतिमा को एक लकड़ी की चौकी पर रखकर के नाग देवता पर चंदन रोली पुष्प आदि चढ़ाकर के उन्हें मीठा दूध पिलाते हैं और उनकी आरती उतारते है। इस दिन कुछ लोग सोने अथवा किसी धातु के पंच नाग (पांच फन वाले नाग) देवता का भी दर्शन करके उनकी पूजा अर्चना करते हैं। कुछ महिलाएं इस दिन व्रत भी रहती हैं इस दिन के व्रत में शाम को भोजन कर लेना चाहिए।
अन्य मान्यताएं
भारत वर्ष में नागों की पूजा पूर्व काल से ही किया जाता है, क्योंकि इससे मनुष्य का सांपों के प्रति प्रेम की भावना जागृत होती है। सर्प हमारे खेतो में रह करके हमारे खेतों को उपजाऊ बनाते हैं वह अन्य जीव जैसे चूहे आदि को खाकर हमारे खेतों की रक्षा भी करते हैं।
